Scuba diving
Learn to dive and explore the clear Atlantic waters off the
Berlengas Islands.
Haliotis, a diving company based at the Hotel Praia Norte near
Peniche,
ten minutes from Praia D'El Rey has PADI qualified instructors.
The business started in 2004 so all the diving equipment and
the superb twin
outboard dive boat are new. The large indoor and outdoor pools
at the Hotel
are used for training and instruction.
Surfing
Surfers paradise? The local beach is excellent for surfing and
there is
an unmade cliff road from Praia D'El Rey all the way to Baleal.
The drive
takes about fifteen minutes and includes three more surfing
beaches,
two very popular beaches at Baleal, the huge bay at Peniche
and Supertubos
on the other side of the Peniche peninsular.
There are surfing and body boarding competitions throughout
the year at
Balleal and Peniche with film crews and sponsors like Surfoz,
Ripcurl and Billabong.
Tennis
The Praia D'El Rey Tennis Centre has seven all-weather courts
and a
club house with changing facilities and a cafe. Courts can be
hired by
the hour or by the day. There are special programmes for kids
and one
of the courts is used for football and basket ball.
Windsurfing and Kite-surfing
Near Praia D'El Rey is the Lagoon. Open to the sea but free
from the
Atlantic waves it’s an ideal location for the Sailing
School.
The school has an excellent training programme for all ages
and specialise
in teaching kids as young as six the basic sailing skills. With
groups of six
or more they will arrange to meet you on the Praia D’El
Rey side of
the lagoon - saving the drive around the lagoon.
For the more experienced sailor or windsurfer the lagoon is
an ideal
location particularly where the lagoon meets the ocean. The
school has
a wide range of windsurf boards, catamarans, canoes and kite
surfing
equipment to rent by the hour or by the day.
